My most vivid memories of creation, are mostly here in Colorado, and probably why I love this state so much. My first Rocky Mountain horseback ride in Breckenridge when I was 12, and from then on dreaming about a way to "get back to ride in those mountains." Endless days, in piles of beautifully fluffy snow! Hundreds of dramatic thunderstorms, a lot of those being, in the thundercloud. Snow and sunshine coming down at the same time. Hundreds of Elk as you walk over a ridge in the high country. Sunrise and sunset, at 12,000ft. Galloping horses bareback on mountaintops. Snow lightly falling on a 14,000ft. peak. 80mph winds and 0degrees on a 14,000ft. peak, haha! Early morning runs, where the mountains meet the prairie. Tonight was one of those moments. It was a special to share this awe-inspiring moment with Charlie. I've never seen all the cars pull over on Hwy. 93 to take pictures.
When you have your first child (or any child after that I guess), all of a sudden, the rubber kind of hits the road. Desires you have for them come out, dreams you never knew you wanted for someone else. Your beliefs are truly challenged, and played out in real life. You also can feel weaker than you ever have because, for some odd reason, you feel completely exposed. It really is impossible to hide when you have kids, and especially more than one, ha! I really can't imagine having 5, I'm positive I would run around like a chicken with my head cut off! Thus, why that will NEVER happen:). So, then you are obviously confronted with the "God question." What will I tell my kids about God? Will I allow them to experience God on their own or will I teach them about God from the get-go? Does God really, truly exist? Thankfully, I asked the big question, does God exist, a while ago and feel settled on that answer. So when you do know he exist, from experiencing him, WOW, this is a hard one with kids! Point being, I really want my kids to know the living Creator that I do, not some weird version of the Bible or God, so how does that come about? I've decided, somewhat, that I will read from the Bible at times (because God does speak from that) and I will try to guide him through his life experiences, trying to help him identify what is God and what is not. At this age (3 yrs. old) I just don't know how much he understands (or remembers, haha) and the last thing I want to do is pester him, so, I just don't talk about God all the times I want to. The Holy Spirit promises he works among us, believing that, I know he can do that with my kids as he has done with me, so I have left it at that. Long story short... :)
We pulled over to see the double rainbow and Charlie was beside himself. I mean, he already LOVES rainbows, but he was in AWE. We were just quietly sitting there looking at it and he says "Mom, God is POWER!" Followed by "Thanks God!" Wow, what?! As I said earlier, I don't teach him a ton about God right now. I definitely didn't talk about God's power yet. To say the least, I was pretty shocked!
"Truly I say to you, unless you are converted and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever then humbles himself as this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven." -Matt. 18:3-4
We love to get in our own way, all the time. Not believing, doubting, hating life because of this or that. Try being like a child, thinking like a child. Simply. Allowing the simple things of this world to be absorbed, and God will be seen. He is among the basics in our lives. It's pretty refreshing! I'm glad for moments like this so I can remember to take a breather, and take in God's beauty, it's a lot easier than what we often do.
I-Phone pictures..wish I had my good camera! By the way, this was over Table Mt. and our neighborhood, crrrazy! These pictures don't do it justice. It was so big, I couldn't drive far enough away to get all of it.

I agree with your understanding about raising children. I know that children understand far more then we think they do. I like the verse you chose. I believe you are on the right path.
